Do Not Just Sit Back Waiting Your Injuries to Heal
Movement is life. Nobody appreciates this more than a sidelined athlete. Sitting out an injury can be lonely and frustrating. It’s possible for athletes to temporarily focus on education or work, but without exercise, they feel miserable and deconditioned. But you don’t have to lose all your hard-won conditioning while on the mend. Most injuries leave you with at least some exercise options. You just have to get creative.
For instance, suppose you are one of the thousands of athletes every year who gets a knee anterior crucial ligament (ACL) tear. This injury usually takes you out of the game for nine to 12 months, counting surgery and rehab. But too many athletes spend too much time cheerleading from the sidelines; they could be using those months to work out, according to a team of French researchers writing in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.
